The Mentor’s Mentor

Mark Seigle agreed to be my mentor a couple of years ago. Funny story of how it came to be.

I applied for a mentor with World President’s Organization, excited about the potential, but concerned about the level of commitment the mentor would have. Somehow my information ended up on the desk of Mark. He set up a lunch meeting to determine if I was worth the time. Although I was hopeful about the opportunity, I had been let down in the past, so my frame of mind was more “cautiously optimistic”.

We met and interviewed each other. What was interesting was that we both were creating an environment that played down the potential, trying to set reasonable expectations. I left the meeting giddy…Mark is so impressive – not just his business success, as we barely discussed that – it was his candor and deep understanding of the emotions of a business owner. I was easy to see that his wisdom is like a sharp knife that cuts through fluff very quickly. I knew I had the right match.

Mark agreed to meet with me every month for half a day. A testament to his commitment was that he would drive 1 hour to meet with me at my office. Here is a wildly successful man driving an hour each way to share his insight with me. He is truly special.

Our relationship blossomed into one of the most important relationships in my life. It is not often when a man is willing to give so much of himself to another. I am grateful for everything he has done for me, both directly and indirectly. I dream bigger because of him. And I feel safer because of him. He leaves me in the wonderfully humble position of just having to say “Thank you”.

Mark, thank you. You have changed my life. I am a better mentor and giver of my time because of you. I hope it honors you to know I am continuing your acts of service. I am grateful to God that you are in my life.
