Common Sense
Happy June everyone!
I hope you all are enjoying your journey through the weekly messages. Here you are able to suspend all of your existing logic and look at situations from a different point of view. Knowing your perspective allows you to be a participant in the action. Knowing other points of view makes you a more effective decider of which actions to take.
This week I have deliberately shortened the message to allow you more time to ponder its meaning.
We all use our common sense regularly, so we might as well make it as robust as possible. Merriam-Webster defines it as “sound and prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the situation or facts.” Therefore, our minds produce our perception from the culmination of our experience and the way it interprets a situation. Basically our minds take the situation in, relates it to what we already know and gives us an almost instantaneous response to it.
Our immediate, knee jerk responses to a situation where conflict is, or may become present, are often the ones that wreak the most havoc on our days. So what is required to resist our immediate response? Patience and discipline are certainly present. I’d like you to consider humility’s role. Humility is the soft voice of reason waiting to be heard while pride is busy disguising its tracks and editing the facts.
Suspending our logic, looking to understand another’s point of view empower us to grow. Growing can keep us relevant. Companies that run the same plays without changing with their clients needs lose. We must expand our perspectives. We must conquer ourselves to harness our potential.
