Communication Tips (SERIES)
Tip #4. Speak their Language
Communicating in a format that is most comfortable for your audience will help them understand you better. Converting your message into their preferred format helps remove translation error. Consider the following tips when crafting the structure of your message.
Visual Learners respond well to:
- Written information
- Categorical Structure
- Diagrams
- Lists
- Charts
Auditory Learners respond well to:
- Verbal instructions – in person or on phone
- Audio recordings
- Video recordings
Kinesthetic Learners respond well to:
- In-person meetings
- Examples / Stories
- Role playing
- Interactive games
Weaving all three together can be effective when talking with a group where you do not know the audience’s preferred learning style.
